Making Waves Rally 2018

Rork Projects was proud to have recently participated in the annual Making Waves Rally in aid of the boating charity Sailors with disAbilities (SWD) on Sydney Harbour.

Held on Friday 9 March 2018, our Sydney staff were joined by invited guests from RPS Australia Asia Pacific to assist sailing the magnificent 50ft racing yacht ‘You’re Hired.’

SWD is well-known throughout the marine industry for the range of activities it provides to help people with disabilities or disadvantage experience what it is like to go sailing.

The organisation held its first Making Waves Rally on Sydney Harbour last year with more than 20 boats taking part followed by an onshore celebration at the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia (CYCA), all in the name of raising money for SWD’s programs.

Our staff were ;ucky enough to have ‘You’re Hired’ skippered by David Pescud himself – the Founder of  Sailors with disAbilities.

“I guess, if I sum it up, my career is helping people. I think that is the only thing that is of real worth on this planet & I believe that is why we’re here,” he said.

All proceeds raised on the day went towards maintaining David’s core ethos to provide free sailing and training programs for people with a disability, disadvantaged children and adults, and their careers.

This leading charity inspires optimism and fosters a culture of inclusion through sailing.

“We use sailing as a tool to build confidence, self-esteem and new relationships. Through sailing, people start to forget about what they can’t do and focus on what they can,” David concluded.

What a great day  – congratulations to all involved.
