Rork Shines on Bourke

It’s the new breath-taking welcoming space for GTV9 (Channel Nine) in one of Melbourne’s architecturally renowned A grade buildings.

Rork Projects are proud to have played a vital role in constructing the 1500m2 space at the iconic 717 Bourke Street, Docklands.

Knight Frank Australia – on behalf on REST – engaged Rork Projects back in late 2017 to provide Head Contractor Services for the repositioning and construction of Channel 9’s main foyer.

The refurbishment works saw an expansion to the foyer by threefold, this exposed the external glass wall to the north introducing an abundance of natural light to the internal areas. Multi angled feature timber ceilings and walls complimented the building’s imaginative and progressive lines, whilst the natural stone floor commended prestige and excellence. In addition to the foyer works, Channel 9 were provided with new talent amenities and studio which are rarely ever seen by the public.

Steve Raymond, Rork Projects Victorian GM, said the project required numerous specialist trades during the intense 6 month construction period, and that the team worked collaboratively with all stakeholders under a hybrid D&C approach. Numerous alternate methods of construction were adopted to value manage and maintain the projects budget, whilst still achieving the original design intent.

“For us though, it was a great opportunity to work with some of the iconic players in the industry such as Knight Frank Australia, REST and METIER3 Architects to produce an amazing outcome”

717 Bourke Street is located in Docklands adjacent to Southern Cross Station on the corner of Wurundjeri Way and Bourke Street.
