Rork’s work inspiring UC’s students

University of Canberra recently recognised the need to upgrade the UC Refectory and create a welcoming dining and networking space to nourish and inspire students and staff.

Rork Projects – with our project partners CCJ Architects – was engaged as the head contractor in late June 2019 for the University of Canberra’s Refectory Food Service Counter Upgrade.

The project was completed in five weeks over the semester break, all in time for mid-year orientation week.

The Upgrade required the services of a trusted construction partner able to deliver:

  • a cost-effective result that represents value for money;
  • construction methodologies that minimise disruption;
  • timely, safe and efficient completion of the works to match the delivery date and
  • proactive construction advice.

The project included the demolition of the existing counters, re-levelling the concrete floors, structural modifications for the larger opening, all new joinery, new servery equipment, floor finishes, wall tiling, plywood bulkhead panelling, new security folding doors, digital menus, kitchen access doors, and the minor upgrade of the adjacent outlet.

Rork has successfully delivered a number of projects at the University of Canberra including:

  • Replacement of the refectory floor
  • Collaborative Computer Laboratory 1C33

Our work at UC compliments other successfully delivered innovative and complex fitouts in hospitality and high-end retail.

These include; the commercial kitchen upgrades for the ADFA Officer’s Mess, Jewish Childcare and Community Centre, CPA and many café / bar fitouts such as Muse Café, Mocca, Stone Wall, Indo Cafe, Soul Bar, and Lemon Grass Restaurant.
